4 Ways New Windows Can Help You In The Summertime

Blog

Many people are aware that energy-efficient windows will help keep out cold drafts and help keep your home warmer in the winter time. But energy-efficient windows are not just beneficial in the winter; they can be beneficial in the summertime as well.

#1 Protect Against UV Rays

Not all of the sun's rays are good for you. Ultraviolet rays from the sun can damage your skin and cause skin cancer. They can also be damaging to your home as well. UV rays can cause the color to fade from many common household items, such as paint, carpets, furniture, pictures, and artwork.

You can install windows that are UV resistant. These windows filter out UV lights, much like how sunglasses protect your eyes from UV light, while still allowing visible light into your home. In the summertime, when the rays from the sun are really intense, this is a great way to ensure that you are protected against ultraviolet rays inside of your home.

#2 Cut Down on Sound

It tends to get a little louder outside in the summertime. If you live in a neighborhood with children, you'll hear kids outside playing all day. In the evening, you may hear barbeques and parties taking place. People also tend to enjoy bumping their music up in the summertime.

With new windows that are energy efficient and are at least double or triple panes, you can cut down on the noise that makes its way into your home in the summertime. New windows can be one of the keys to having a quieter home in the summertime.

#3 Keep Your Home Cool

Windows that are energy efficient are designed to keep air from seeping into or leaving your home. Energy efficient windows can help ensure that the cool air you are pumping into your home stays put and that hot air doesn't get in. Newer windows can help keep your home cool and cut down on your cooling bill.

Additionally, newer windows help keep your home cool by cutting down on heat transfer. Energy efficient windows are designed to stop the flow of heat. If you have ever touched a window when it is hot outside, and discovered the glass is warm, this is because of heat transfer through the window.

Investing in new windows is a great way to help keep your home cool, cut down on sound transmission into your home, and protect your home against UV rays. Visit a company like Active Hurricane & Security Protection to learn more about the importance of new windows in your home.

Building our Guest House Was a Great Decision

For years, my wife and I debated on what we wanted to do with all of the spare land in the back of our house. We were lucky enough to buy a house on an extra-large lot for a great deal, but the land was "going to waste" for quite a while. One day, we finally decided to have a guest house built on it, and now that the house is finished, we wish we had built it long ago. We are now renting it out for some extra income, and it is helping us save for retirement. I have always been fascinated by construction, so I enjoyed watching the professionals build the guest house and learned a lot during the process. I decided to fill some free time by blogging about the experience and sharing some construction info I learned during the process. Come back soon!
